Saving lives isn’t a weekend hobby for us. It’s a lifetime commitment. Every rabbit rescued by SaveABunny is promised a happy, healthy life – even if they never get adopted. Some of our rabbits have been with us for eight years or more. This essential aspect of our organization is only possible through the SaveABunny Sanctuary.
We think every story deserves a happy ending. Though we rescue hundreds of rabbits each year, we see each rabbit as an individual with his or her own story and special needs. Some can find homes right away, and some need extensive rehabilitation. Rabbits like Phoenix, who endured horrific torture and is now an ambassador for humane education. Melody, who survived abuse and neglect has found a safe and loving place at SaveABunny to thrive. Senior rabbits like Buddha and Sabra may eventually find a home of their own, though they will likely spend their sunset days at SaveABunny, peacefully getting the loving care they need and deserve.
Unfortunately, rabbit therapy isn’t as simple as a weekly session on a couch. (Though they like that, too.) Along with conventional veterinary care, our rabbits receive energetic and alternative healing, such as Reiki, Shamanic healing, T-Touch, animal communication, acupuncture and cranial sacral therapy.
We’re devoted to all rabbits – not just our own. When possible, we also offer our assistance to other rabbit rescue groups. We frequently take in rabbits that could not find a place elsewhere, because of their special needs - either medical or behavioral.
But we can’t do it alone. SaveABunny is a nonprofit organization – and that means 100% of our rescue and sanctuary work is funded by donation, and staffed entirely by dedicated volunteers.
The work we do is extremely rewarding – but it can also be heartbreaking. We witness abuse, neglect and trauma that no animal should have to endure.
It is also extremely expensive to provide such intensive care. We usually have 100 or more rescued rabbits to care for, and the expenses can top $6000 every month. Funding is urgently needed to help us save those rabbits that "no one wants." Even small contributions can make a big difference.
Many of the rabbits that have come to us were not expected to survive their physical or emotional trauma, but with the time, love and care provided through the SaveABunny Sanctuary, they enjoy an excellent quality of life surrounded by people who love them.
